All of the coffee beans that go into our Solino crema are delivered to us directly from the farmers in the region of Illubabor and Jimma. At Solino, we exclusively use sundried coffee beans for our crema. Following this traditional method, the beans are laid out to dry in the sun for 2 weeks after the harvest. We believe that sundried coffee has a more aromatic taste while also being less acidic and therefore more wholesome compared to washed coffee beans. In addition, processing sundried coffee requires way less water compared to washed coffee
The EKM 200 coffee grinder from Rommelsbacher is not only a must for every coffee lover, but also an eye-catcher in every kitchen. Two high-quality grinding discs in the robust steel grinding mechanism ensure the optimum grinding degree. Individually adjustable from coarse to very fine.
Local value creation
Like all Solino coffees, our crema is drum roasted in small batches in Ethiopia. After the roasting process, our coffee is packed immediately and shipped to Hamburg by sea. Because we roast our coffee beans at the origin, we are able to help Ethiopians participate in the value addition process so that they earn 60% more compared to exporting raw unroasted coffee, which – unfortunately – still is the standard way of manufacturing coffee. This video from 2016 shows our coffee production in Ethiopia in only 3 minutes (Video-Link).
A transparent supply chain
At Solino, we are able to offer our customers a completely transparent supply chain, thanks to the individual QR code on the back of each crema package. You can follow our coffee beans during their process from the harvest to the roasting in Addis Abeba to the final shipment to Europe. We introduce each member of the Solino team that is involved in the process of making your coffee. You can also rate each production step. This blockchain technology offers maximum transparency along the value chain. Scan the QR code and follow the link.
We are proud to support the Ethiopian initiative OurFathersKitchen. For every imported container of coffee, Solino donates 1000 meals to disadvantaged children in Addis Ababa. We love this organisation because we know that 100% of the money reaches the children. All employees work voluntarily and there is no administrative cost.
