We receive the coffee beans for our Solino espresso directly from the farmers in the region of Illubabor and Jimma. At our roastery, we exclusively use sundried coffee beans for our espresso. Traditionally, the beans are dried in the sun for 2 weeks after the harvest. We believe that this way, the coffee has a more aromatic taste. Sundried coffees are also less acidic and therefore more wholesome and smoother in taste. In addition, processing sundried coffee requires less precious water compared to washed coffee.<\/p>\n

Local value creation<\/h4>\n

Like all Solino coffees, we drum roast our espresso in small batches at our roastery in ethiopia. As soon as the beans are perfectly roasted, the coffee is packaged and shipped to Hamburg by sea. The roasting of coffee beans at the origin leads to a value addition process and helps the Ethiopians earn 60% more wage compared to only exporting raw and unroasted coffee. Unfortunately, up to now, exporting raw coffee is still the standard way of manufacturing coffee. This video from 2016<\/a> shows our coffee production in Ethiopia in only 3 minutes.<\/p>\n

A transparent supply chain<\/h4>\n

The supply chain of our espresso is completely transparent. Because of an individual QR code on the back of each espresso package, our customers are able to follow our coffee beans from the harvest to the roasting in Addis Abeba and to the final shipment to Europe. OurFathersKitchen<\/h4>\n

Solino supports the Ethiopian initiative OurFathersKitchen<\/a>. For each imported container of coffee, 1000 meals are donated to disadvantaged children in Addis Ababa.
